Neighborhood Housing Guide For International Students

By coming to study in Gainesville from another part of the world, you’re initiating a rewarding cultural exchange that will enrich your life and contribute to the diversity of the city. As you explore your new city, you’ll discover it has many vibrant neighborhoods, each with its own culture and styles of apartments for rent. But whether you're an international student or merely a new resident, learning about these different neighborhoods can help you find the best area to live.

Archer Road

Archer Road is a large neighborhood in southwest part of town that derives its name from a popular street of the same name. Rental housing in Archer Road is desirable because of its proximity to the city's leading shopping centers. There are also several housing communities dedicated to students, including  Bridgelight Townhomes, a community of two-story townhomes.

Downtown

The nervous system of Gainesville is Downtown, where you can find an eclectic array of small businesses and restaurants that keep the area humming with activity. Downtown is also home to such student communities as LynCourt Square, which features spacious units with up to four bedrooms and high-speed Internet included.

Midtown

If you want the convenience of being close to Downtown and UF, check out Midtown. This trendy neighborhood encompasses a north-south corridor west of Downtown and divided by University Avenue. Midtown also features numerous off campus apartments near UF. Alligator Alley offers full-size houses for rent.Upper Westside Apartments and Nantucket Walk Apartments both feature units with stainless steel appliances. Lyons Corner has single- and multi-level units with up to five bedrooms, while Campus View Place, which is near Sorority Row, offers deluxe two- and three-bedroom units.

Northwest Gainesville

When students want to live close to Interstate 75 (I-75) or major shopping areas besides those on Archer Road, they choose Northwest Gainesville. Not too far from the UF campus, this neighborhood allows students to enjoy a serene, natural environment with quiet suburban streets and lots of native foliage. Notable student housing in the area includes Spyglass Apartments, a luxury community known for having amenities such as a fitness center, pool, and computer lab.

Sorority Row

Sorority Row is located southwest of Downtown,  making it walking distance from UF to the west, Depot Park to the east, and Downtown to the northeast. Among the neighborhood's options for student housing is Courtyards Student Apartments, which has furnished rooms with cable and Internet.
