4 Reasons You Should Know Your Apartment Neighbors

Back in the day, it was seen as odd for someone not to be, at the very least, acquainted with their neighbors. Nowadays, it’s rare for most people to have ever even held a conversation with their neighbors. Maybe it’s because we do most of our socializing online now, or perhaps it’s merely due to the fact most people are too busy to stop and say hello. Either way, these days, most miss out on the perks that come with knowing their neighbors.

Whether you live in student apartments or non-student apartments, taking some time to become acquainted with your neighbors has plenty of benefits. The following are a few reasons why we at Contemporary Management Concepts, LLLP believe that knowing your neighbors enhances the experience of living in an apartment community.

Mindful Coexistence

Sometimes, neighbors can be obnoxious. Whether your neighbors are too noisy, invade your personal space, or park in your spot, taking some time to introduce yourself to them may cause them to behave more politely in the future. Oftentimes, neighbors who are already acquainted will be more mindful of how their actions affect one another. Go the extra mile to befriend your neighbors, and you’ll be able to freely apprise one another on how to be more neighborly on a daily basis, ultimately leading to a friendlier community.

They Can Lend A Helping Hand

Overall, kindness begets kindness, and one of the biggest perks of being friendly with your neighbors is all the generous help they’ll be willing to give as you grow closer. However, don’t expect them to help you out if you’re unwilling to lend them a helping hand from time to time as well. If you see your neighbor struggling to carry all their groceries up the stairs, offer to carry some for them! Be kind, and the next time you need to borrow a cup of sugar, your neighbors are sure to oblige.

To Enrich Your Social & Academic Life

After a big move, it might take some time to make new friends. A great way to start the process of making friends in a new area is by meeting your neighbors. You don’t need to go door to door and introduce yourself, just say hello when you see them around. Eventually, you’ll organically transition from the occasional small talk to a genuine friendship.

For residents of student housing such as our apartments near UF, many of your neighbors will likely be your academic peers. Befriending them will give you the advantage of having a study buddy just a few doors down!

Community Safety

Well-acquainted neighbors are more willing to look out for one another and pay closer attention to when things seem amiss around each other’s apartments. Particularly, having a few trustworthy neighbors is advantageous when you plan on being away from home for an extended period of time as they can check in on the place for you. Additionally, in the case of a medical emergency, it’s much easier to get the immediate assistance of someone who is one door over from you than it is to seek help from a friend or family member who lives miles away. In general, getting to know the members of your community helps to bolster neighborhood security.
