Planning a summer move means relocating during one of the busiest seasons of the year, making planning ahead crucial. We recommend booking your moving day several weeks in advance, as booking early can also help secure your moving truck or moving company.
Before you can begin packing, it's important to gather all the necessary moving supplies, such as bubble wrap, boxes, and packing tape. We recommend picking up more supplies than you think you’ll need, as no one wants to take a break from moving to run errands in temperatures above 90 degrees. You will likely use most, if not all, of these supplies, but any extra, unopened supplies can always be returned to the store.
Before packing your belongings into your newly acquired supplies, take some time to review them and determine if there is anything you can donate, discard, or recycle. Start with any items that haven’t been used in the past year, or things that have been sitting untouched in a closet or garage for a long period of time.
Time is of the essence when you move, so making a detailed checklist can help your move stay on schedule. On the checklist, we recommend including any tasks that need to be completed before moving. Additionally, you can include important dates, paperwork, or any other items that need to be completed before the big moving day.
When the big day finally arrives, you’ll likely be engaging in a variety of indoor and outdoor physical activities, which makes it essential to dress appropriately to help prevent overheating and dehydration. We recommend wearing lightweight, breathable, and comfortable clothing, along with a hat or cap to help protect your neck and head from the sun. Keep sunscreen on hand as well, so you can reapply throughout the day.
