5 Steps To Clean Out Your Junk Drawer

Junk drawers are a strange phenomenon, almost everyone has one, but no one likes them nor rifling through them to find the item you're searching for. As much as you may try to keep the drawer organized, it usually ends up just looking like an office supply store has exploded in your drawer. Thankfully, Contemporary Management Concepts, LLLP has outlined some steps you can take to help organize that junk drawer in your Florida apartment!

Remove The Drawer

The easiest way to clean out your junk drawer is to take out the whole drawer so you can take inventory of all the junk that's in there! Make sure you have a trash can nearby, so when you find all those take-out menus, expired coupons, or old electrical cords, you have a place to toss them out easily!

Sort Into Piles

Once you've started the purge of your junk drawer, you can begin to sort some of the items into piles, so you can decide what you need to keep in your junk drawer and what can be moved elsewhere. This will also help you to find and sort through any duplicate items. Make sure to set aside any essential items that can still be of use around the house, such as miscellaneous tools, manuals, and crafting supplies.

Take Out The Paper Clutter

If you have a lot of paper that has accumulated over the years, we recommend adding plastic paper sleeves to the inside of one of your cabinets. These take up very little space and can help you store your important recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. As far as those old take out menus go, most can be tossed, as they're typically easily accessible online.

Arrange Your Storage

Now that you have separated and purged your junk drawer, you can arrange the items you decided to keep. To do this, we recommend getting a drawer divider so you can organize your junk drawer rather than having to dig through jumbled piles searching for what you need. You can also use old muffin pans or ice cube trays to make a D.I.Y. drawer divider.

Keep Up The Good Work

Congratulations! You've successfully organized your junk drawer but now comes the most challenging part, making sure that your junk drawer doesn't fall back into the state it was previously in. We recommend making a habit of tossing things you don't need to help keep the actual junk out of your junk drawer.
